Jeju Island has a unique culture of food, clothing, and housing due to the geographic characteristics of the island and its unusual natural environment. Even today, citizens of Jeju Island maintain this unique, traditional flavor reflecting the island’s nature in their houses, tools, and clothing.

    Galot
    These dark, rust- brown garments are dyed with persimmon juice. At first the clothes are a little stiff, but with continuous wear they become soft. They are good for people of all ages while doing physical activities as one specialty of the dyed cloth is that it does not stick to the body while sweating.
  • Diving Suit
    This unique suit was used by Jeju’s haenyeo (women divers) well before the arrival of Japanese rubber suits in the early 1970s. The diving suit includes a top, a pair of pants and a water cap. Through these garments, one can catch a glimpse of the diligence and efficiency of Jeju’s women divers.
  • Rain gear
    A kind of raincoat trimmed and with a thinly stitched fitted belt which is made specifically to resist rainwater and is a must for a windy island like Jeju.
